This weekend, our July “Green Living” issue hit newsstands, featuring LEED-certified homes, sustainable design and locally made wares. Since At Home in Arkansas is focused on all things green this month, we’ll be hosting a series of giveaways throughout July – so stay tuned!
Little Rock is full of talented designers and craftsmen! No need to go far to find fabulous art, clothing or jewelry, though the handmade letterpress prints of local couple, Christie Turk and Caleb Pritchett of Roll & Tumble Press, are making waves across the United States and beyond.
Christie, former painter turned letterpress printer, and Caleb, art school dropout turned tattoo artist, bonded seven years ago over a love of thrift stores, music and quirky collections. Three rescue dogs, a grand old lady of a house from the 1930s, and a beautiful friendship with an old-timey printer later and poof! Roll&Tumble Press is born. Christie and Caleb print the traditional way, using 19th century technologies (no computers or plastic plates in their shop). They begin with all their own original illustrations, hand cut into wood or linoleum, one block for each color, and pair this with antique wood or metal type, most of which is over 100 years old. They painstakingly set each letter by hand with hand-mixed inks and crank each print on a 75 year old press.
We’re giving away one print to a lucky At Home reader this week! It’s reader’s choice, so visit the Roll & Tumble Press Etsy shop and leave a comment here telling us which print you’d choose. The winner will be chosen in a random drawing and announced next Monday, July 9th. Good luck!
