Tanda Stoelzing and her builder husband Trey of Mid-Town Builders have been designing and renovating homes for years, and when they decided to build their new home in Little Rock’s Heights neighborhood, they wanted to make the rooms of their three children as special and unique as each child. The entire family enjoys being together in the playroom, which is located downstairs off of the family room. “It’s a very nice setup because the family room, kitchen, breakfast area and my desk all have a clear view of the playroom,” Tanda says.

For their oldest, eight-year-old daughter Emma Kate, has a room full of color and light. “Her room is like a tree house with windows on three sides, looking over the treetops,” Tanda says, but the windows aren’t the only source of light thanks to the unique fixture. “The chandelier-like light fixture is designed by Tord Boontje and made of laser-cut Tyvek, which just wraps around the light bulb. It casts a pretty pink glow,” she says. The dresser is originally from Emma Kate’s nursery. “The house is more modern than what we’ve previously had so I took the dresser to Tracy Rivers at Angelfish Studios who painted a fun modern design on it,” she says. To add a little extra pop of pink, Tanda applied the flower wall art, which are actually removable decals.

The boys are very close and enjoying sharing many of the same spaces, including the bathroom that joins their two rooms. “Right now, Charlie actually sleeps on Luke’s top bunk because they like to sleep in the same room. They are big buddies with a lot of energy and very big imaginations,” Tanda says. “I designed their rooms to grow with them, so their beds are appropriate now—Luke has bunk beds and Charlie has two twin beds—and for when they’re older and having sleepovers.

Charlie’s room also consists of lively colors, which help it flow with Luke’s room, but it boasts its own style too. “I chose accessible storage for both rooms,” she says. “With the white walls and natural maple floors, the dark painted windows and dark steel bed make interesting but clean lines in the rooms. The bright colors in the bedding, rugs, art and lamps really stand out.”
